Create a Multilingual WordPress website with Polylang tutorial –

Polylang multilingual WordPress plugin permits you to change your web-site into a multi-language WordPress website. This will make it possible for you to attain a wider audience with your content material. You will have to the translations your self or you can hirer translators that combine right with the plugin.

Initial matters 1st, let’s set up the plugin.

To set up this plugin make sure you log into your WordPress dashboard, hover in excess of Plugins and then click on Include New.

On the upcoming website page style “Polylang” into the research bar. The plugin we want must be the 1st one particular in the best remaining. The graphic appears to be like a parrot’s head struggling with to the right.

Simply click on the Install Now button and then click Activate after it really is mounted.

There are a large amount of increase-ons for the Polylang plugin. I encourage you to look at individuals out if you need to have further multi-language functionality.

This plugin permits you to increase languages to your website in the plugin settings. By introducing a language, it provides functionality to translate any submit to that language and provides that language to the sidebar widget.

To increase languages click on Languages in the lefthand admin menu. On the upcoming website page is a very simple sort that will make it possible for you to increase a lot more languages.

Include as any as you want.

But retain in brain the plugin does not automatically translate your content material. All translations are guide.

Now that you’ve extra languages click on Posts or Web pages in the remaining facet admin menu to individuals lists.

You will see new columns with the nation flags of the languages you selected in the header row.

In each individual submit or website page row you will see possibly a look at mark, a plus sign or a pencil beneath any specified unique nation flag.

The look at mark signifies that the submit in that row is in that language.

The pencil signifies a translation in that language exists and you click on the pencil to edit it.

The plus sign signifies that a translation does not still exist in that language. You can click the plus sign to make a edition for that language.

It really is important to retain in brain that when a submit is translated into all the languages you selected, there will be a different submit for each individual language.

For case in point, if you have 3 unique languages established for your website, if you translate a submit into all of individuals languages you will 3 unique posts. A single for each individual language.

As soon as you have some posts translated you are going to want to increase the sidebar widget to your website so that people today can change involving languages.

Go to Visual appearance, then Widgets. In the Accessible Widgets area there will be one particular named Language Switcher. Drag it to your sidebar and then personalize it.

As soon as you happen to be accomplished, go to a weblog submit on your website and change languages making use of the switcher to see how it will work. It really is fairly amazing.

By default, the plugin will detect the visitor’s browser’s language and choose that language on your website if it exists. You can transform that habits if you go to Languages, then Options.

There is a lot more to the Polylang plugin but this will get you started off on the right foot.

i dont understand whats the difference between this plugin vs just cloning/duplicating the pages for other languages. You are basically doing everything by hand nothing seems to be automated. Big like anyway! your video brought some clarity for sure.

Hello, Thanks a lot for the tutorial. I could not make sure of one point. My web site has all the content in portfolios – not posts. Everything mentioned here are based on posts. But, does the plugin work in the same way with portfolios as well?

Hi! Thank you for sharing this great tutorial. I'm facing the following issue: when adding the + for a language a new post is created. Same with categories. For example: I write a post in English, publish, then add the + for German and add the text, I see two posts in the post section. When creating a category: same here – at the end I have two categories, one in English, one in German. Not sure if you know what I mean… but it would be great if you could contact me and help. Thanks so much

Nice tutorial! Helped me a lot, but I have a problem that I can't fix it. Maybe you can help me again…
So my website is one page (http://www.georgemota.com) and the main language is English. I'm trying to make in Portuguese and German. Everything is ok according with your tutorial when I translate the pages, but it's not happening with the menu. I also created the different menus, but when I open the page in Portuguese, the menu still appear in English.

Maybe is something about the configuration with the plugin because I set up the menu according with the language. Like english page – english menu. I really don't know what is happening and I'm using this option to identify the browser language.

I hope someone can help me… Thank you!

Hi there! I am wondering if it is possible (with Polylang) or perhaps with an additional plugin, to have the language switcher not in the widget area or main nav menu, but instead as an "en | fr " at the top right of the page? thanks!

Hi, I have a Sydney theme site in Spanish, once I installed the plugin and added the English language and save. I checked the site and all content was missing on the site. it gave me the URL name /en and I couldn't get back to the Spanish version. I had to delete the plugin to get back to the original Spanish version. Please help, I want to have this site in Spanish and English.

As a beginner, I am having difficulties finding the plugin. Do I have to upgrade my account in order to install it? There isn't any 'Add new' option on my plugin menu and I cannot seem to find the polylang plugin from the search bar as well.

Maybe you can help me out with a problem? When I chose my secondary language (English) it works perfectly, but when I change page it changes back to my default language (Danish) and I have to click the English translation again.. Is there a way to keep the whole website translated all the time when I click the flag?

Have a question.. I have installed the plugin. But I don’t have the option “string translation”
And under settings I don’t have all the options you are showing… I only have “Decide whether to remove all data when deleting Polylang.” Why is this ?
    Thank you !
